Most of the images in this collection were taken in Europe and England. Although there is a surprising variety of colours in the landscape all year round, I found the bare branches against the often-cloudy sky was quite a monochromatic palette. I felt this lent itself to a black and white series to emphasise the simplicity and peacefulness of the naked trees. So often I notice in winter that there are still signs of life; leaves remaining from the previous summer or buds already growing in anticipation of the coming spring. I’m not sure the plants are dormant, I think they are quite alive all the time.
